Superior competitiveness in producing value-added products from sawn timber
Solidi Finland’s Solidi business platform ecosystem and Solidiwood process technology enable superior competitiveness in producing value-added products from sawn timber. For Solidiwood technology and wood products, as well as for wood construction, this means a superior price-quality ratio and radically resource-efficient and environmentally friendly production. One should not settle for imitating competitors. That offers no new means of competing.
All of this also leads to growth in the demand for sawn timber, its price and its competitiveness against other materials used in processed products. Sawn timber has only truly been sold and priced once it has been sold as value-added products.
Once you study the whole website and its links in depth, you will understand why the operating profit of the producers and users of Solidiwood technology runs to tens of per cent. No calculations are even needed for this. The website alone already sets out much of the basis for what is possible and achievable, why, and how. It is, however, a major undertaking to study the website and its links, and especially my forthcoming, far broader and more in-depth book, deeply enough to believe fully in the radically new and revolutionary combination of the two major profit drivers below. Both of them are exceptionally rich in arguments / justifications.
A. Solidiwood process technology for the further processing of sawn timber. The most concrete basic idea of my development project began to germinate about 40 years ago, after I read an article in Puutekniikka magazine on Junkers Oy’s technique for hot-press drying solid-strip parquet blanks.
B. The Solidi joint concept, which secures the national interest and keeps product prices at the desired level, together with its IPR rights and other key factors. Otherwise, the product and other advantages achieved would, through competition and over time, largely pass to the end users of wood products as product prices fall. The Solidi joint concept has grown stronger alongside factor A. particularly over the last approx. 5 years. This has been prompted by digital books and by material from society and elsewhere encouraging the adoption of digitalisation, including in industrial business.
The reader can, however, already note that the deployment of factor A. for future Solidi joint-concept companies is assured and verified by Teijo Ruuth in cooperation with the technology industry, and that of factor B. mainly by Heikki Kukkonen, formerly Business Director for electronic services at Innofactor Oyj and currently CEO of Solidi Finland.
The Solidi research and development project took concrete shape a year before the start of the current millennium, at an expert course at the University of Helsinki. Today it is fair to say that the profit drivers arising from attunement to directed intuition have fallen into place substantially more broadly and productively than the goal set at that time.
“When the limits of reasoning are reached, a true inventor and developer seeks a solution from intuition. In the non-fiction book Intuitio3 (Intuition3), published by Otava, Asta Raami explains the concept by dividing it into three types: instinct-based, knowledge-based and superintuition, which transcends the limits of the mind.
When an invention seems inconsistent with earlier conclusions or unnecessary, people do not believe in it. When something does not fit the old way of thinking, it cannot work. Asta states that there are no impossible problems. One simply has to put to use the connection skills that see beyond self-imposed limits into the whole vast solution space.”
What is essential is that the factors behind the business results of the combination of the two major profit drivers mentioned above, which arises from Solidi Finland’s operations, have been identified. They are known. The question now is how to put them into use.
The Solidi Finland business platform ecosystem’s techno-economic solutions, IPR and other key factors offer the opportunity for radically new and profitable innovation. Competition in the world economy has increasingly shifted to competition between various networks and ecosystems. Business that harnesses the platform economy is growing rapidly and is radically changing companies’ opportunities to renew themselves and succeed.
Solidi Finland makes it possible to create an ecosystem through which Finland and Finnish companies can lead the rest of the world and win the competition. This is built on Solidi’s key factors and without competition between its domestic and foreign joint-concept companies. President Sauli Niinistö in 2018: “The most important of our pillars is the national one. Its development is most of all, and most directly, in our own hands.”
J.W. Snellman: “Every nation lives for its own interests, and in that it does right. Yet its endeavours succeed only if its own interests are united with the interests of humanity.”
Solidi Finland’s interests are also united with the interests of humanity through the availability of radically more affordable technology and wood products, the low resource intensity of the technology and the growth of wood construction, the increase in environmental values that all of these enable, and the fight against global warming and biodiversity loss.
Most significantly, sawlogs can be processed into Solidiwood value-added products that offer a better price-quality ratio on average than current value-added sawn timber products, at a cost level lower than the total cost of producing export-dry sawn timber at even the most modern sawmill.
There is good reason for Finnish giant corporations, even those that have already given up the further processing of sawn timber, to join Solidi Finland’s project as well. In this way, our country’s national-interest joint concept is realised to the full, and with it the concept’s industrial property rights and copyrights, the business platform ecosystem and Solidiwood technology / wood products can be defended together with foreign Solidi joint-concept giant corporations. Making use of our national opportunity is also helped by the fact that our country already has forest resources larger than its size would suggest, as well as a wood products industry and a technology industry serving it, right up to international giant corporations.
Foreign Solidi joint-concept companies in particular make it possible to maximise the achievement of global market leadership and the fight against climate change.
The manuscript of my book on the Solidi project, the work of the past four years, has now been completed. It already serves as a reference work on the future knowledge of its field and on building an industry from that knowledge. It is a far broader, deeper and more forward-looking work than the website.
The themes of my book are the story of the birth of a radically new business opportunity, the story of a strong vision built up over years and decades through experiences and even difficulties, a dream in which, instead of maximising the returns of an individual person or organisation, the aim is to solve a problem bigger than oneself for the common good.
My book tells a personal story from the roots of my visions to the present day, and also paints portraits of the times of entrepreneurship, industry and innovation in Finland through the decades. In this way the book also speaks to a wider audience, as its themes are topical and cut across industry boundaries, while being approached from a perhaps surprising perspective – that of the wood industry.
The purpose of my book is to answer the question: What, why, how and with whose support has the Solidi & Solidiwood development project reached its current state, and to activate the parties in taking the project forward. With the help of my book, wood products and technology companies and those serving them will find it easier to understand the radically broad and high overall result of the project and be motivated to study the project in real depth.
The themes running through my entire work are innovation, creativity and the challenges of getting ideas to break through. As a whole, my book, like innovation itself, represents an impact greater than individual benefit: making it available to a wide audience supports the possibility of change and action whose effects touch everyone.
The specific target groups of my book are: 1) the management of the technology, wood products and construction industries, 2) public decision-makers and educational organisations 3) forest owners and 4) designers who specify construction and other wood products and, above all, their end users.
The five most compelling core messages of the Solidi project and my book
- The core of Solidiwood 3D process technology is that wood products are not machined by cutting in the traditional way; instead, they are manufactured, right through to surface treatment, by hot forming green sawn timber in product-specific units.
- Solidiwood 3D process technology makes it possible to produce Solidiwood processed products that, in terms of price-quality ratio, are by far more cost-effective and affordable than traditional value-added sawn timber products. These factors alone would be enough to revolutionise the further processing of green sawn timber.
- The use of Solidiwood 3D process technology and, enabled by it, the use of the national-interest joint concept, which is even more radical than the technology itself: the Solidi business ecosystem.
- Finland has a superior starting position to harness the market leadership of the Solidiwood 3D process technology and wood products business of Solidi Finland Oy and its joint-concept companies, as well as the national-interest joint concept, the Solidi business ecosystem.
- The Solidi project can make today’s small Finland the world-leading nation in its field, while also maintaining the manufacture of its technology and its future development in line with its vision.
My book is a reference work on the future knowledge of its field and on building an industry from that knowledge, breaking with the centuries-old tradition of the sawmill industry and especially of its further processing industry. It sets out the grounds and operations, together with visions of the future, through which its core messages are also realised.
Solidiwood process technology
Bioeconomy, Cleantech and Green Growth
Solidiwood process technology hot-forms sawn timber in 2-3D into high-grade processed products in a single compact, product-specific device/process, right through to surface treatment.
Technology and wood products companies specialise in Solidiwood production for one or more application areas, or even for just a single product. The technology is well suited for use not only by large and medium-sized industry but also by small industry
In the technology, the blanks are treated both with the wood material’s own binders and with added treatment chemicals / materials, selected from the group consisting of impregnating agents, fillers/primers, and surface treatment and adhesive agents / films / scrims.
Solidiwood press unit
The compact Solidiwood process technology enables 2-3D hot-press drying of products, heat treatment, stress relief, straightening, increased bending strength and stiffness, gluing from several parts, cutting to set lengths, profiling and dimensioning, as well as densified smooth, topographic or textured surfaces, together with their pressurised patching and coating with various substances and/or films. All of this is possible as highly automated 24/7 production and in as little as a few hours.
The compact press unit enables production of the above functions optimised for each product. It makes most sense to design and produce the unit tailored to each application area / product.
The wood products are manufactured in fixed positions; essentially only the pressing tools move slightly. There is no need for intermediate storage, there are no by-products, and no other production equipment is required. The raw material, sawn timber, remains entirely in the product.
Solidi Finland’s business platform ecosystem has a technology-oriented business perspective as its common thread. S o l i d i is exceptional by every measure. The most rewarding of these is:
Superior competitiveness through the Solidi Finland business platform ecosystem’s Solidiwood technology and wood products business, global market leadership and the national-interest joint concept, S o l i d i.

Turning Solidiwood process technology into industry must also be possible through small-scale operations. The threshold for getting started must be low, including abroad. Teijo Ruuth designs the technology for each customer in cooperation with Solidi Finland Oy and the necessary technology industry.
Teijo has worked at Raute Oyj and Makron Oy, manufacturers of presses and other woodworking machinery among other things, for about 7 years at each, in particular as a designer, R&D engineer, and design and project manager.
Finland has a superior starting position:
